Learning from the incidents handled by the PDA, MORPh is delivering free risk management training for PDA members working in primary care, and GP practice-based pharmacists.

Primary care pharmacy is an established branch of the profession, and primary care pharmacists have considerable experience working both at a primary care organisation and GP practice based levels since 2016, and the number of pharmacists working in a GP practice and associated primary care pharmacy roles is growing.

The PDA has developed a PDA Plus partnership arrangement offering free risk management training for its members who are working in primary care or GP practice-based settings.

Working with specialist training provider partner, MORPh, the PDA has developed specific training events, with the key aim of raising awareness of the nature of the risks faced by primary care pharmacists and, more importantly, the ways in which individuals and teams might manage them.

In this way the PDA hopes to make primary care pharmacy practice safer for patients, while simultaneously helping pharmacists to avoid problems and the unwelcome consequences for themselves from untoward incidents.

Mark Koziol, Chairman of PDA, explained, ‘A civil claim for compensation following an error or omission is an extremely stressful process for all parties concerned.

‘As a defence association, we know that the best way to defend our members, is to try and keep them out of harm’s way in the first place. We are therefore delighted that working with MORPh will enable us to provide training designed specifically for this purpose.’
