During February, the Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE) will be sending out a new consultation skills resource to all community pharmacies in England.

The Consultation skills for pharmacy support staff resource is in a new CPPE format and consists of a set of learning cards. Each learning card covers a separate topic, for example, ‘First impressions’ or ‘Patient-centred care’ with key learning points and top tips. The cards also contain links to videos providing an opportunity to observe and critique the skills and behaviours of pharmacy assistants in action.

A letter and user guide will also be sent out with the resource.

The resource has been developed with dispensing assistants, medicine counter assistants and delivery drivers in mind; however, they are also useful for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians as a quick reminder of the importance of effective consultation and communication skills.
