The Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE) has launched its latest e-learning programme, Consulting with People Living with Dementia, as an expansion of its consultation skills portfolio.

This e-learning programme encourages pharmacy professionals to consider what is different about consulting with people living with dementia and ways they can prepare. Through the use of a case study the programme illustrates methods to adjust core consultation skills to the needs of patients with dementia as well as how to manage a three-way consultation with the patient and carer(s).

The programme contains useful tips and information that will provide pharmacy professionals with the confidence they need to consult with people living with dementia and their carer(s) in order to improve the outcome of their consultations.

The programme can be accessed from the CPPE website.

Anne Cole, Regional Manager, Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education, said, ‘This programme will increase the confidence of pharmacy professionals during consultations with people living with dementia and their carer(s). The programme illustrates how core consultation skills can be adjusted to the needs of patients living with dementia and their carers to improve their outcomes via the use of activities and an audio case study which learners follow through the programme.’
