During a visit of Professor Dr Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol from Thailand to the UCL School of Pharmacy, research achievement and graduate training needs in the area of natural product science and biodiversity research were discussed.

Professor Dr Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol from Thailand visited the UCL School of Pharmacy and met with researchers in the area of natural product sciences and biodiversity research.

Discussions during her three-hour meeting, which was hosted by Professors Simon Gibbons and Michael Heinrich, centred around the importance of developing new drug leads to treat infectious and emerging diseases and the quality and safety of herbal medical products available on national and international markets.

Her Royal Highness expressed her wish to initiate a Memorandum of Understanding between her Institute and UCL.

Professor Simon Gibbons said, ‘We were absolutely delighted to host Her Royal Highness and having such an eminent scholar in our field visit UCL is an enormous boost to natural product science. We look forward to working with Her Royal Highness in the future and fostering research collaborations with the Chulabhorn Research Institute.’

The youngest daughter of Their Majesties King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit of Thailand is founding President of the Chulabhorn Research Institute, which was created to assist in the development of Thailand’s capabilities in natural product research and related fields. Her special research interests include the chemistry of natural products, Thai medicinal plants, environmental health problems of developing countries and cancer research.
