Manchester School of Pharmacy offered third year students a unique opportunity to visit Astra Zeneca’s (AZ) Pharmaceutical Development labs at Macclesfield site, and, for the first time, obtain hands-on practical experience working on scientific challenges.

The students were given the option to choose their topic of interest for the experiments beforehand to be able to better prepare for them and make the most out of their time there. As well as that, they received the opportunity to work with very senior AZ scientists and gain insight into the different techniques and processes they use in their research.

Student Sarah Balid said, It was a great experience and I felt very lucky as pharmacy students rarely get the opportunity to gain any experience in industry, let alone hands-on experience. If you are interested in industry or are still indecisive about your sector of interest, this visit would give you a very good insight into the roles of pharmacists in the team at AZ and help you make an informed decision.’
