The recipients of the 2017 Scottish Pharmacy Awards were announced last week during a glamorous gala hosted by renowned television and radio presenter, Shereen Nanjiani.

The annual ceremony honours the pharmaceutical sector’s emerging talent, as well as the steadfast service delivered by the healthcare workers year after year.

Over 330 leading industry figures flocked to the 2017 venue of choice – Glasgow’s Hilton Hotel, William Street – for the reveal of the event’s title-holders.

Reflecting the diversity of the industry, the 10 accolades up for grabs ranged from GP / Pharmacist Partnership Working, and Pharmacy Practice of the Year, to Innovations in Clinical Development in Cardiology Pharmacy, to the Student Leadership Award. After a thorough application process, teams of highly-respected experts whittled down the entrants in their relevant fields, with the finalists being invited along to ceremony.

In a standout moment, Professor Norman Lannigan, recently-retired Head of Pharmacy and Prescribing Support Unit, Accountable Officer Controlled Drugs (NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde), was presented with the Special Recognition Reward in tribute to his years of dedication.

Over £2,500 was raised on the night for this year’s nominated charity, the Scottish Association for Mental Health, which currently operates over 60 services in communities across Scotland, providing mental health and social care support, as well as homelessness, addictions, and employment services, among others.

The event was masterminded by publishing specialists MEDCOM – responsible for UK-wide healthcare and pharmacy magazines, websites, and digital alerts.

All the winners and their stories of success will be featured in the forthcoming edition of Scottish Pharmacy Review, while the exclusive pictures can now be viewed by visiting www.scothealthcare.com/awards.
