A pioneering NHS Highland patient safety initiative and an innovative Islay pharmacist are both in the running for this year’s Scottish Pharmacist Awards.

The health board’s Scottish Patient Safety Programme – Pharmacy in Primary Care team (SPSP-PPC) has been nominated as a finalist in the Innovation and Change in Pharmacy category, and Catriona Brodie from Islay Pharmacy in the Pharmacist of the Year category of the prestigious awards.

The winners will be announced during an awards ceremony at the EICC in Edinburgh on 27th February, hosted by TV presenter Carol Smillie.

The SPSP-PPC team was nominated for its work over the past year in improving medicine safety as part of a pilot involving seven community pharmacies and dispensing GP practices across the Highlands.

The scheme is part of a two-year initiative across four Scottish NHS boards – NHS Highland, NHS Fife, NHS Grampian, and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde – aimed at improving the safety of medicines for patients.
