National pharmacy chain, Well, has launched its first-ever Expert Clinical Practice Programme (ECPP), forming its clinical development pathway.

Comprising of a comprehensive three-year diploma, the programme has been launched to equip pharmacists with the tools and skills needed to meet the current and future needs of the profession.

The course aims to ensure that pharmacists are delivering high quality and effective services, while encouraging them to impart knowledge to customers, enabling them to optimise their understanding of medications, empowering them to make key decisions about their care.

Well’s most talented and proactive pharmacists will be able to build on their existing skills via the ECPP. The course also aims to broaden knowledge, enhance confidence and develop in areas of personal interest for future career progression.

The programme will enable pharmacists to perform at a higher level in their current roles, but will also create an internal talent pipeline for future clinical and professional roles within the business.

Ben Turner, Human Resources Director at Well, explained, ‘Our pharmacists are clinical experts in medicines, whose primary focus is to put the customer at the centre of every consultation. We have developed our ECPP to further grow our people by educating them to provide a personalised and effective service and deliver community pharmacy of the future.’

Well’s ECPP will be delivered by Keele University, a well-established provider of undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy education.

Elizabeth Mills, Director of Pharmacy Postgraduate Studies at Keele University, said, ‘We are delighted to be delivering the ECPP for Well. We have over 20 years of experience in delivering courses to support pharmacists to develop and extend their professional role.

‘The ECPP has been designed in partnership with Well to provide Well pharmacists with a wider view of healthcare, and to develop their knowledge, skills and confidence to provide the healthcare of the future.’

The three-year diploma is open to applications from existing Well pharmacists, with 50 positions available nationally.
